Matthew Reid - Garden Design

About

Matthew Reid's garden designs are directly influenced by over 20 years of hands-on practical gardening experience combined with an in-depth understanding of dependable and analytical design principles. Through thoughtful designs and a collaborative approach with his clients, Matthew's aim is to link the garden with its house and surrounding landscape, while being sensitive to the historical context and local building materials.

Matthew has a first degree in Art and Design History and a diploma in Horticulture and Estate Maintenance. He then went on to become the head gardener at several large historical estates in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. His passion for creating beautiful gardens alongside his detailed knowledge of plants led him to graduate in Garden Design with a distinction from the Cotswold Gardening School in 2016.

Matthew now runs his garden design business as well as continuing to be a hands-on plantsman and gardener. This puts him in the excellent position to be able to see your project through from design idea to completed garden. Matthew has a thorough understanding of English garden history and is interested in restoration projects as well as more contemporary schemes. His design projects to date include the gardens of large country estates and smaller more urban gardens.

Matthew can provide garden surveys, scale plans, planting plans, 3D drawings, mood boards and garden maintenance schedules. He works closely with several landscaping companies and can put you in touch with one to best suit your budget and the scale of your project. Matthew can project manage the hard landscaping and oversee the planting plans, working in close partnership with his clients, ensuring that the finished garden completely reflects the client's wishes.

Matthew Reid lives in the Cotswolds, near Stroud, with his wife and two children.
